The nuggets from Kalgoorlie, in Western Australia, are considered some of the largest and most valuable in the world. These nuggets are composed mainly of pure gold, with traces of other metals such as silver, copper and nickel. The formation of these nuggets is due to gold mineralization within quartz veins, which formed during the Archean era, about 2.5 billion years ago. Most of the Kalgoorlie nuggets have been mined from underground mines, but some have been found on the surface. The size of the nuggets varies greatly, from a few grams to several hundred kilograms, and their value, which can reach over €200/g, depends mainly on the weight and the purity of the gold contained within them.
