GENERAL:

This BMW 840i (E31) represents the pinnacle of 1990s GT design, featuring the iconic pop-up headlights and the sleek, pillarless silhouette that defined BMW’s flagship "8er." Driven by the celebrated and robust V8 engine, this model is highly sought after by enthusiasts for offering a more agile driving experience than its V12 counterparts. This specific example was originally delivered new to Japan, a market known for meticulously maintained luxury cars, where it remained until 2016. It was then imported to Europe by a Danish BMW collector for a static collection, resulting in very limited mileage over the last several years.

BODYWORK & PAINT:

The bodywork presents a very straight and elegant profile. The paint is in good overall condition, retaining a deep shine. While there are minor scratches consistent with the car’s age and documented kilometers, the finish remains highly presentable. Paint depth measurements indicate that the car has been repainted in the past; however, this appears to have been a cosmetic refresh (likely for stone chips or minor scuffs), as there is no evidence of structural damage or past accidents. The front windscreen is clear with only a few negligible stone chips, though a small plastic trim panel is missing from the front, as shown in the photographs.

TECHNICAL:

The 4.0L V8 power unit starts and idles smoothly, providing the effortless torque expected of an 840i. The automatic gearbox shifts well through all ratios. There is a minor mechanical misalignment on the physical gear selector—where the indicator sits one position lower than the selected gear—but the digital dashboard display correctly reflects the actual gear in use. To ensure reliability after its period in a collection, the car has recently received a fresh oil and filter change, a new fuel pump, and a new fuel filter. Furthermore, the fuel tank was professionally cleaned to remove any sediment from long-term storage. While the car is in good drivable condition, the next owner may wish to address minor preventative maintenance on the underbody. Due to their age, a set of fresh tyres is recommended for optimal safety.

INTERIOR:

The interior remains a high-quality environment with seats showing only light, expected wear. Regarding the electric adjustments, please note that the seat base cannot move up or down, though the backrest functions perfectly. The dashboard is structurally sound, though there are minor cracks in the wood veneer around the center console. A key feature of this car is the electric sunroof, which is in perfect working order, operating smoothly in both the tilt and open/close functions (see photos). It should be noted that the interior fabric lining underneath the sunroof is missing, leaving the underside black. The cabin is clean and free of smoke or pet odors, though a professional interior detail would perfectly complement the car's striking exterior.

DOCUMENTS:

The car includes its original service booklet from its time in Japan. While the booklet is not fully stamped, it contains several documented service entries. The vehicle is currently located in Denmark and is being offered from a private collection.
