Description from the seller
Description
A charming Chinese porcelain saucer from the Kangxi period (1662–1722), decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The central medallion depicts a scholar within a landscape, a theme closely associated with the cultured scholar’s world of contemplation and refinement.
From the center radiate eight alternating cartouches along the sides, each panel showing either a scholar in a landscape or a landscape with a small house or hut. This balanced composition gives the piece a lively yet harmonious appearance and reflects the strong literati aesthetic typical of Kangxi blue and white porcelain.
The saucer is beautifully shaped in an elegant octagonal form, enhancing the visual rhythm of the panel decoration.
