Description from the seller

H. W. Franke
Computer Graphics / Computer Art

Herbert W. Franke (1927–2022) was one of the most influential pioneers of computer art and computer graphics, able to combine scientific rigor with artistic creativity. Franke developed a "rational theory of art" based on the psychology of perception and information theory, teaching this discipline at the University of Munich from 1973 to 1997. In 1979 he was among the co-founders of the famous Linz festival, which became the world’s main center for electronic arts. As early as the 1950s he created "generative photographs" and oscilloscope images using analog computers and X-ray machines. In the 2000s he was a precursor of virtual worlds with his 3D project "Z-Galaxy".

Published in first edition in 1971 by the Bruckmann publishing house in Munich, this book is considered the first complete treatise on the history and technique of digital art. It analyzes the use of computers not only in the visual arts, but also in sculpture, cinema, music, and architecture.
