“My Forest” Artwork realized in 2021 and cataloged, exhibited in 2022 at the prestigious Radium Artis Gallery within the exhibition “No Time No Space,” curated by Alberto Navilli.
“My Forest” represents one of the most intense moments in Michael Peddio’s painterly research. The composition is dominated by a vibrant verticality: incandescent red trunks emerge as organic, pulsating presences, immersed in a color atmosphere charged with emotional tension. Red, a central color in the artist’s poetics, is not decorative but structural: it becomes energy, conflict, primordial vitality. Dark lines carve the surface like veins, while acidic greens and deep glazes create a dramatic and dynamic contrast. The work belongs to the artist’s most intense expressionist phase, in which nature is not represented but reinterpreted as inner space. The painting matter is alive, layered, capable of capturing light and depth depending on the viewing angle.
Catalog publication available.
Artwork exhibited in an official curatorial context.
A work that combines chromatic force, recognizable stylistic identity, and a certified exhibition path.
Michael Peddio: “My free expression is not confined by a preconceived idea, but conveyed through color and form as the only instrument, a return to a primordial form of art. The absence of drawing is, for me, a prerogative of the indeterminacy of the work at its birth; as in life and especially in the times we live, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation. My painting evolves from the blank canvas to an unpredictable finale. For me there is only the acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process.”
Michael Peddio began as a child, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point comes around his 30s, thanks to meeting master Teobaldo Cattini, a Reggio-born macchiaiolo painter, who opens the doors to painting. A great source of inspiration and strength from the former boxer painter. In 2012 the meeting with artist Barbara Nicoletto, his current partner, opens the doors to his second artistic season and to artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014 painting begins to acquire an inner meaning. Figurative begins to yield space to introspection. Inner strength takes over and the canvas becomes a gap, with the years becoming increasingly filter-free, increasingly unreserved in showing his I. Strengths and weaknesses are shown without shame. The man is naked, without masks.
In April 2016 he is noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, he participates in: The Museum on Display, Bipersonal at CA’ DEI CARRARESI Museum in Treviso, a very important location rarely granted to emerging artists.
In 2018 Michael Peddio reaches painting maturity. His paintings are free from conditioning, expressing with harmony and beauty all the raw reality the artist wants shown. We find strength and harmony. We find positivity even in tragedy. We find beauty.
Also from 2018 we see the artist collaborating with Galleria REART, opening to the art world and interacting with other artists on the national scene. We see him exhibit and also curate shows. He co-founded with Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti the movement of the Cromatisti. They gather in a Factory, a place of discussion and work.
In 2020 the encounter with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, is a great source of dialogue with the art world at a national level. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at Radium Artis Gallery was the debut in serious art, at age 46, giving him the visibility his works deserve.
In 2021 the meeting with critic and curator Alberto Navilli opens another steep evolution, seeing his art grow more and more along the path of cruder, uncompromising spontaneity.
