Keith Haring (1958–1990) was an iconic American artist known for his bold, simple figures with thick black outlines, of which this work is a wonderful example. Haring began with graffiti in the New York City subway. He drew inspiration from street culture, hip hop, and graffiti. His art tackled themes of love, energy, politics, and social equality. In the 1990s he died of AIDS. His work remains influential and recognizable around the world.
