Description from the seller

Rare photo from the 1970s of Cor Jaring. Signed and dated on the front. Signed again on the back. Provenance: Christie’s auction, 13-10-1987.

Cor Jaring (1936-2013) was one of the most important and best-known photographers in Amsterdam. Jaring was born on the Eastern Islands and worked as an able seaman and night watchman in the harbors. During his service he became acquainted with photography. His subject was initially the harbor, but soon he photographed everything that happened in the city. He was the 'house photographer' for the anarcho-ludic Provo movement in the 1960s of the twentieth century. A good photo, according to Jaring, is one that outlives the times. 'The spirit of the age, once the times have passed and you still find it good, then only is it a good photo.'

In 2013, shortly before his death, Jaring transferred his archive to the Amsterdam City Archives.

This is a unique opportunity to own one of his self-printed and signed photographs.
