Description from the seller

A rare photo from the 1970s by Cor Jaring. Signed and dated on the front. Signed again on the back. Provenance: Christie's auction 13-10-1987.

Cor Jaring (1936-2013) was one of the most important and well-known photographers from Amsterdam. Jaring was born on the Eastern Islands and worked as a deckhand and night watchman in the ports. During his service, he was introduced to photography. His subject was initially the harbor, but soon he photographed everything that was happening in the city. He was the 'court photographer' of the anarcho-ludic Provo movement in the 1960s. A good photo, according to Jaring, is a photo that outlives its time. 'The spirit of the age, once the time has passed and you still think it's good. Then it is a good photo.'

In 2013, shortly before his death, Jaring transferred his archive to the City Archives of the Municipality of Amsterdam.

This is a unique opportunity to own one of his self-printed and signed photographs.
