He was awarded English Designer of the Year four times, and in 2003 he was also honored by the CFDA as International Designer of the Year. In 2011, after his passing, the Costume Institute of New York organized at the Metropolitan Museum of Art a monumental retrospective of his work. The artist and photographer Nick Waplington (born 1970) has published several of his monographs including Living Room and The Wedding, Safety in Numbers and Truth of Consequence. He lives between London and New York.
