Description from the seller
Laurence Jenkell, alias Jenk Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, is a self-taught French contemporary sculptor and painter, world-renowned for her “Wrapping Bonbon” sculptures. Born December 31, 1965, she lives and works on the Côte d’Azur and in 2022 opened a studio-gallery in Monaco to showcase her works. She began her artistic exploration in the mid-1990s where she experimented with different techniques that allowed her to master plexiglass and to create HER twisting technique. Twisting or wrapping is literally the rolling of material onto itself paired with the twisting of the wrapper. Thanks to this technique, she created the Bonbon sculpture that would make her famous and that became her artistic signature. For nearly 20 years, Jenkell has sculpted candies in bright colors using materials such as bronze, plexiglass, aluminum, marble, polyester, and Murano glass. Under the influence of her imagination, the twist takes on full meaning and her works are part of a reflection and a cultural process: the Bonbon theme combines simplicity and universality. With a great deal of freedom and determination, Laurence Jenkell continues her research and experiments around the twist and develops new collections that enrich her repertoire of forms."} ) } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
