Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist at home and abroad. His artworks are included in several renowned art collections, and he was the first Dutch artist to be elected as Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Games in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels' artworks there is always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he prefers to imagine the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, imaginative perspective on everyday things and is often taken by surprise.
Briels imagines experiences he gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue, and the souk, with a lightly erotic sauce poured over the musical tones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never bound to time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than those we are supposed to see. Because stereotypes are learned, not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is often surprised.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 33 x 29 cm
