Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist both domestically and internationally. His artworks are included in several renowned art collections, and he was the first Dutch artist elected as “Official Olympic Artist” for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind the artworks of Clemens Briels lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he prefers to imagine the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with a different, imaginative view of everyday things and is often taken by surprise.
Briels portrays the experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North- and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music provides an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, with a lightly erotic veil over the musical tones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels’ artworks are never bound to time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument; the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer’s imagination by showing different images than those we are expected to see. Because stereotypes are learned and not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Dimensions with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions without frame: 33 x 30 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. We also use restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. Should you wish to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
