Clemens Briels, Figure, hand-signed screenprint from a limited edition (146/200), produced in the Netherlands in 2002, measuring 62 × 56 cm with frame (33 × 30 cm without frame), sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist both domestically and abroad. His artworks are included in several renowned art collections and he was the first Dutch artist to be elected as Official Olympic Artist for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels's artworks there is always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISM: he imagines the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, imaginative view of everyday things and is often surprised.
Briels imagines experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North- and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, the music tones drenched in a light erotic sauce, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels's artworks are never bound by time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan imaginings of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than we are expected to see. Because we have stereotypes learned, not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 33 x 30 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framer, who is celebrating his 85th anniversary year. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
