- Inscriptions: Obverse: Chinese dragon with a coiled body inside an ornamental circle, with the Chinese characters 上海 and 壹两 distributed around. Reverse: ONE TAEL · SHANGHAI · HONG KONG · 1867, with a crowned quartered shield in the center and the mark G 566 at the bottom.
- Grade: PR70DCAM (PCGS).
Modern commemorative issue medal, struck in copper-nickel, reproducing a design inspired by the 19th-century Shanghai mercantile taels. The obverse features a traditional-style Chinese imperial dragon, finely detailed, with strong relief and excellent definition in the scales, claws, and facial expression, contrasting against deep mirror fields. The reverse displays a heraldic crowned shield of Western influence, surrounded by an English legend, with sharp and balanced engraving. A specimen of absolute proof quality, with intense contrast between mirror fields and frosted reliefs, no visible defects, representative of the highest level of conservation.
