Fascinating and rare work of art by the renowned German painter August Rieper, a prominent exponent of the Munich School at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The painting, titled on the back by the artist himself "Zwiesprache" (Dialogue), captures a moment of intimate rural daily life.
The scene depicts a young woman in finely detailed traditional clothing and a man with a hat, seated at a table in an interior illuminated by a splendid leaded glass window. Rieper's mastery is evident in the play of soft lights and the realistic rendering of fabrics and faces, typical of the narrative realism of the period.
