Description from the seller
Citroën AK 400 1971
- Completely restored including a new, galvanised chassis
- Very original bodywork
- Luxury version with parking and hazard lights
- Ami engine with about 29 hp
EXTERIOR
Exceptionally beautiful Citroën AK 400: this example is fully and extensively restored, including a new chassis and a newly fitted interior. The AK 400 (payload 400 kg) is the sought-after van version of the iconic 2 CV, also known as the 'Duck'. This example was built in 1971 at the Citroën factory in Vigo, Spain. The car comes from the collection of a hobbyist and is in a very nice, restored condition. The bodywork is still very original and has been painted in the lovely, classy colour 'Albatros' beige/grey. The chrome work is largely original and renewed where necessary. The wheels and rubbers are in good condition. We have rarely seen a nicer AK!
INTERIOR
The wonderfully simple interior has also been restored and is in good condition. The seats have attractive brown upholstery. The interior is further equipped with heating and a switch for the windscreen wipers and the hazards. The side windows are tilting.
TECHNICAL
Since the original AK 400 from 1971 features a 22 hp engine, this example is equipped with a more powerful Ami-engine of about 29 hp. The car runs, brakes and shifts well. It is equipped with high-quality silicon-based brake fluid. The new chassis is galvanised and thus offers excellent rust protection thanks to thermal galvanising. The complete immersion process during the galvanising guarantees that inaccessible areas are coated, making the chassis virtually maintenance-free without the need for additional treatments such as tectyling or painting. We have found no rust on this car.
GENERAL
The Citroën 2CV. Best known as the 'Duck' or 'Ugly Duckling'. This iconic French model was created in 1935 for French farmers as the target audience. It had to be affordable and reliable. It also had to be able to transport goods comfortably and safely over unpaved roads—potatoes, eggs and wine. One requirement was that eggs in a basket would not crack when the car drove over a ploughed field, and this car delivered that. The original plan was to present the 'Deux Chevaux' at the Paris Motor Show in 1939, but due to the war this took place only in 1948. Production ran unusually long: from 1949 to 1990. Despite great success and high production numbers, a good, rust-free example is now increasingly scarce. The van version (Fourgonnette) is known as the delivery Duck and was produced from 1951, with the AK 400 produced from 1970. The delivery Duck was also used by the Dutch roadside assistance in the past! Today, they are mainly sought after for marketing or camper possibilities.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
