With this powerful portrait, Peter Robert Keil dedicates himself to one of the greatest music legends of the 20th century: Elvis Presley, the “King of Rock ’n’ Roll.”

The profile portrait shows Elvis in a dynamic, expressive rendition. Bright reds, yellows, and greens meet strong black lines, giving the face a striking and instantly recognizable form. The intense blue of the eye creates a tense contrast to the warm color palette and immediately draws the viewer’s gaze.

His artistically gifted mother fought her way with her son to West Berlin in the final phase of the war, where the two settled after the war. There Keil grew up in the working-class neighborhood of Berlin-Wedding and soon discovered his interest in painting – especially in expressionist artists and the works of Pablo Picasso. The painter Otto Nagel, who came from East Berlin, became his mentor from about 1954 and taught him his first craft skills and painting techniques.
