Antique wood Biedermeier tobacco jar, dating to 1940–1950, on a turned foot, 24 cm high and 14.5 cm in diameter, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
An elegant and characterful Biedermeier tobacco jar from the 19th century, made of turned wood and mounted on an ornate foot. This type of tobacco jar was a staple part of the smoking culture in the Biedermeier period and was often prominently placed on a table or in a cabinet.
The jar has a harmonious, architectural form with multiple turned bands and subtle bead rims that beautifully showcase the craftsmanship of the woodturner. The warm honey-colored wood has developed a deep, natural patina through age and use, giving the object a rich and authentic appearance.
The lid is crowned with a refined, classically turned knob and fits neatly to the jar. A dark ring around the lid edge provides a pleasing visual contrast and emphasizes the elegant lines of the design. The jar rests on a sturdy, turned foot that gives the whole a stately look.
Due to its balanced proportions and warm patina, this object is not only a historical utilitarian item but also a particularly decorative piece that fits perfectly in a classical interior, a smoking room, or a collection of antique everyday objects.
Condition
Good antique condition with signs of wear appropriate to age and use. The patina and small wear spots enhance the authentic character.
