Description from the seller

Very rare Georgian Aquatic type botanical field microscope made famous by Ellis c.1780-1800. Promoted by the British naturalist John Ellis (1707-1776). It became a popular design and was manufactured in various forms by a number of British and Continental makers. This outfit, stored in a fish-skin covered case, is original supplied with two objectives with Lieberkuhn, unfortunately one objective is missing as well as a tiny screw. It is possible another part is missing, please check the pictures as this is what you buy. The mirror is single sided.

The box measures 115 x 115 x 30 mm and has a very good exterior, is structurally sound, both securing hooks are present; plush interior to lid in reasonable condition for its age; the compartment dividers and support block are detached; the original tweezer is present. Museum piece and a hard to find collectors item.
