MG TF, 1955, TF - NO RESERVE.
Description from the seller
About the owner:
"For more than 56 years I’ve been behind the wheel in racing. And when I include karting, even over 60 years with rubber on asphalt. In that time I’ve made more than 1800 starts and driven over 1050 race weekends. From pedal cars to Formula 1, and basically everything in between.
And I still happily climb into a race car, this year again in the NASCAR Euro Series.
Besides racing, a second passion developed over the years: collecting classic cars. Cars that have a story to tell. Many of these cars come from the '50s and '60s, a period in which I was racing myself or closely involved. They are cars that evoke memories of circuits, eras, and a different way of racing.
My interest was never limited to the well-known or exclusive models. It’s precisely the variety I love. From a simple roadster to Jaguars and all sorts of other makes, each with its own character and history.
Many of these cars I have owned for 30 to even 40 years. They have become part of my life and my story. That’s why it’s hard for me to part with them.
But every thing has a moment when you pass the baton. And what makes classic cars so special is that they not only provide pleasure and history but also unforgettable moments.
I hope the next owners will have as much pleasure, appreciation and passion for them as I have had all these years."

MG - TF - 1955
- 27 years in the current owner's possession
History and Background: The MG TF
The MG TF, introduced in 1953, is by many regarded as the loveliest of the post-war T-series MGs. As the direct successor to the TD, the TF offered a younger, more streamlined design, with the headlights now beautifully integrated into the fenders and a more slanted grille. In 1955, the last production year of this model, the TF embodied the ultimate classic British roadster style before the more modern MGA took over. With its characteristic wire wheels and collapsible (folding) windshield, the TF offers an unparalleled, nostalgic driving experience that recalls the golden years of sports cars. This 1955 specimen offers a lovely opportunity to acquire this MG TF without reserve price
GENERAL
The vehicle is in good overall condition. There are clear signs of use and general aging, appropriate for a classic over seventy years old. The combination of a very healthy chassis and an honest mechanical base makes this an excellent project for the enthusiast who wants to dot the i’s.
BODYWORK & PAINT
The bodywork and paint are in good condition but show signs of aging. Depending on the desired visual standard, the vehicle could benefit in time from conventional painting or panel work. Replacing specific exterior parts may also be desirable to restore the iconic lines of this TF to their full glory again. The chrome parts and the wire wheels are in decent condition. The fabric roof is in good condition and fits well.
TECHNICAL
Under the hood lies the familiar four-cylinder powerplant that gives the TF its lively character. Mechanically, the car is sound and solid. As is customary with a British sports car from this period, regular technical maintenance and possible repairs are to be expected to bring mechanical reliability and performance back to an optimal level.
INTERIOR
The interior is in good, used condition and shows the normal wear one would expect with an active driving history. The interior has an unmistakable patina that suits the car very well and is almost a shame to replace. Some other interior components may require repair or replacement to fully refresh both comfort and the authentic ’50s look.
CHASSIS & UNDERSIDE
The structural base of the frame is very well preserved and in healthy condition. The underside of this MG shows only light signs of use, indicating a life under favorable conditions and good preservation over the years. The integrity of the chassis is thus fully guaranteed, providing an excellent starting point for further refinement.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller.
