Description from the seller

About the owner:

"For more than 56 years I’ve been behind the wheel in racing. And if you include karting, even over 60 years with rubber on the asphalt. In that time I’ve made more than 1,800 starts and driven over 1,050 race weekends. From pedal car to Formula 1, and basically everything in between.

And I still climb into a race car with pleasure, this year again in the NASCAR Euro Series.

Besides racing, another passion has developed over the years: collecting classic cars. Cars with a story to tell. Many of these cars come from the 1950s and 1960s, a period in which I myself drove or was closely involved. They are cars that bring back memories of circuits, of eras, and of a different way of racing.

My interest was never only in the famous or exclusive models. It’s precisely the variety I find beautiful. From a simple runabout to Jaguars and all kinds of other brands, each with its own character and history.

Many of these cars I have owned for 30 to even 40 years. They have become part of my life and my story. That is why it’s hard for me to part with them.

But there comes a moment when you pass the baton. And what makes classic cars so special is that they offer not only pleasure and history but also unforgettable moments.

I hope the next owners will derive as much pleasure, appreciation, and passion from them as I have all these years."

Rolls-Royce - Silver Cloud I - 1956

- 12 years in the possession of the current owner

History and Background: The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I

The introduction of the Silver Cloud in 1955 marked a new era for Rolls-Royce. It was the last model still powered by the refined 4.9 liter six-cylinder inline engine, a powerplant known for its whisper-quiet operation and silky-smooth power delivery. The Silver Cloud I is regarded by many as the most elegant Rolls-Royce ever built, with its stately proportions, the imposing Parthenon grille, and a coachwork that exudes timeless class. This 1956 example embodies the essence of "motoring excellence" and offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of the world's most prestigious automobiles without a reserve price.

GENERAL

This Rolls-Royce is in very good overall condition with only minimal signs of use. The car is superbly preserved and radiates the grandeur one expects from a Silver Cloud. It is a representative example that immediately commands attention with its well-kept and stately appearance.

BODYWORK & PAINT

The bodywork and paint are in very good condition. The paint has a deep gloss and shows only minimal signs of use, such as tiny stone chips or light scratches suitable for a well-cared-for classic. The gaps between body panels are very well aligned. The chrome work is in very nice condition.

MECHANICAL

The mechanics of this Rolls-Royce are very good and the vehicle is mechanically sound. The six-cylinder engine runs with the characteristic calm and the drivetrain functions as it should. Although the car is mechanically solid, a small service may be advisable to keep the refined technology in this top condition for future drives.

INTERIOR

The interior is in a very neat and clean state. Rich in wood and leather, it shows minimal wear and still offers the regal atmosphere of yesteryear. Depending on personal standards, a few small, missing, or defective interior parts could be replaced, but the overall presentation is of a notably high standard.

CHASSIS & UNDERBODY

The structural basis of the chassis is good. The underside of this Rolls-Royce shows normal signs of use and some light surface rust on the construction surfaces. While the base is solid, the underside deserves some attention and conservation in the long term to safeguard the structural integrity of this icon.

The photos are part of the description."

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
