Description from the seller
Jacques Doucet was born on April 9, 1924, in Boulogne-Billancourt. He was active as a painter. During the war, Doucet was interned as a political prisoner, an experience that would impact his work as a painter. At the end of World War II he studied at the academy in Montparnasse. In 1947 he met Corneille (1922-2010), who brought him into the Dutch Experimental Group in Holland (1948). He designed the cover for the second issue of Reflex.
In 1948 he joined Cobra with Jean-Michel Atlan (1913-1960), within which he would be active in maintaining contacts. His work was present at both the Amsterdam 1949 exhibition and the Liège 1951 exhibition. Doucet worked with all kinds of materials. After his contacts with Cobra he began to paint increasingly abstractly. His work has regularly appeared in exhibitions in France, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
