Description from the seller
Marcel Schellekens, born in Soerendonk in 1954, pursued his studies at the Academy of Visual Arts in Utrecht, department of graphics. He lives and works in Bergen in the former studio-apartment of Mommie Schwarz. Since 1986 he has exhibited regularly in galleries throughout the Netherlands, but has also had exhibitions in New York, Vancouver, Tokyo, Edinburgh and Vienna. Retrospective exhibitions have taken place at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Utrecht and Museum Kempenland in Eindhoven. Since his training, Marcel Schellekens has specialized in etching and has developed a wholly unique approach over the years. This has led to painterly color etchings, where no lines, but layers of color pressed over one another for image construction, are characteristic. He works with three different etching plates for the base colors red, yellow, and blue. By pressing them transparently over each other, a rich spectrum of color nuances emerges. In addition to the 'free' work, commissions are occasionally executed. For Intermedi-art, prints were made of Nijmegen, Arnhem, and Zutphen. For Onderneming en Kunst, a series of prints was created for a Holland-America Line cruise ship.
