Wall Clock - Japy Space Age Plastic, Glass - 1970-1980 - In Working Order

Wall clock Japy Électrique “Marguerite” – France – Space Age / Pop design – 1970s Vintage wall clock produced by Japy in France and belonging to the Japy Électrique range. The model known as “Marguerite” was introduced as a novelty in the 1972–1973 Jaz / Japy catalogue (page 37). The clock features a striking radial blue “petal” dial design, from which the model takes its name (“Marguerite”, meaning daisy). The white numerals are integrated within the graphic composition, creating a bold visual effect typical of 1970s Space Age, Pop and psychedelic design. The graphic layout strongly reflects the playful and experimental visual language of European interiors of the period, making the piece both a functional timekeeper and an expressive decorative object. The square case is made of cream-coloured moulded plastic, enriched with blue geometric corner accents and a lower section with horizontal grooves that reinforce the decorative and futuristic character of the piece. The dial is framed by a gold-toned ring and protected by a domed glass front, giving depth and reflections typical of vintage clocks of the period. At the bottom of the dial appears the inscription “Made in France”, confirming French production. This model represents a characteristic example of 1970s French domestic design, where everyday objects such as kitchen clocks were conceived with bold colours and graphic experimentation inspired by the Pop and Space Age design movements of the era. Movement The clock is fitted with a Silvoz Quartz movement, typical of the later versions of this model when manufacturers transitioned from electromechanical systems to early quartz technology during the late 1970s / early 1980s. The movement is housed in a characteristic smoked translucent case, typical of early quartz mechanisms, allowing partial visibility of the internal circuitry. The clock is powered by a C-type battery (LR14). The movement has been inspected and tested; the clock runs correctly and keeps time. As part of careful maintenance, the metal components and battery contacts have been cleaned and treated with specific preservation products to ensure good electrical contact and help protect the metal parts from oxidation. Materials • case: moulded plastic • front: domed glass • dial frame: gold-toned finish Dimensions • width (top): 19 cm • width (bottom): 16.5 cm • dial diameter: approx. 16 cm • depth: approx. 4 cm • catalogue format: 19 × 21 cm Condition The clock is in good overall vintage condition. Period circa 1970s A visually striking wall clock and an authentic piece of 1970s French design, ideal for collectors of vintage European decorative objects and for interiors inspired by mid-century modern, Space Age or retro Pop aesthetics. Before listing, it has been carefully cleaned, tested, and documented with detailed photographs and, where applicable, a video showing its actual operation. All functions mentioned in the description have been tested and verified and will be checked again before shipment as a final quality control. Please note that colors, tones, and reflections may appear slightly different in person depending on lighting conditions, camera settings, and individual screen calibration.
