Raquel López - SUNSET CURRENTS

SUNSET CURRENTS is part of the CURRENTS series, an ongoing body of work exploring movement, interruption and layered energy through abstract gesture. In this piece, warm mineral tones create a tactile and luminous foundation, evoking the residual heat of sunset and the shifting atmosphere of a transitional hour. Soft peach, clay and sand-like hues are intersected by sharper accents of magenta, burnt orange, black and metallic silver, generating a visual tension between flow and fracture. Rather than representing a literal landscape, the work captures a state of passage — where warmth begins to dissolve, currents collide, and traces of light remain suspended within the surface. Through layering, scraping, gestural marks and textural contrasts, the painting moves between fluidity and resistance. Executed in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, Sunset Currents reflects a central idea within the CURRENTS series: that movement is never purely smooth — it carries interruption, memory and the residue of what has passed. This work is conceived as both atmospheric and structural, balancing softness with intensity and spontaneity with control. It is a contemporary abstract piece designed to hold presence both as a standalone artwork and as part of a wider curated collection. n expressive freedom and compositional intent. The artwork is hand-signed and presented in a natural pine wood frame. Delivered with Certificate of Authenticity. Ready to hang. The artist was born in Cartagena and is a self-taught painter currently based in Madrid. Exhibitions include Cartagena (2018), Madrid (2020) and Coimbra (2022). Works are part of private collections in Naples, Parma, Hannover, Moscow, Paris and Coimbra. Recent and upcoming exhibitions include Galeria Azur Miami (2024), The Holy Art Gallery Los Angeles (March 2025), Laura Notari Art & Design Gallery, Monaco (September 2025) and exhibitions in the Netherlands (2026).
