Artist biography: painter Nguyen Robert 1958.
Born in 1958 in Ben Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work stands out for a singular fusion of Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he has been fascinated by the rural architecture of his surroundings, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, the shadows cast by water palms — all elements that will form the basis of his visual language.
Having always been based in his native region, Nguyen Robert over the decades developed a deeply contemporary, modern, and decisively architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms, and geometric abstraction, while preserving a poetic sensibility inherent to Vietnamese culture.
His Franco-Vietnamese heritage enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigor of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul inspires softness, spirituality, and fluidity in his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets timelessness, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual impact.
Renowned for his ability to transform everyday life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the singular voices in the Mekong Delta's contemporary painting. He continues his work in his Ben Tre studio, surrounded by the landscapes that shaped his identity, and continues to exhibit in several galleries across Asia and Europe, captivating collectors and art lovers seeking deeply modern, structured, and vibrant works.
