Dukkers studied at the Institute for Art Industry Education in Amsterdam and was largely autodidactic as a painter. He worked as a painter, draftsman and lithographer. In 1946 he was selected by Willem Sandberg, director of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, for the exhibition Ten Young Painters, in which among others Karel Appel, Corneille and Rooskens participated.

In his entire oeuvre, the human being in general is central. From around 1985 his work shows increasing simplification and abstraction.
