Original work by Jan Cremer. In honor of his exhibition: Jan Cremer as Painter (The Hague period 1958-1962) at Galerie Nouvelles Imges in The Hague.
Cremer has created a fine piece in several exhibition booklets.
Jan Cremer, writer and artist, was born in 1940 in Enschede. His father died in 1942, leaving Jan's upbringing entirely in his mother's hands. Jan's mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest. After the war, Jan Cremer was placed by child protection in foster homes and colony houses. In the fifties he held various jobs, served with the marines and spent some time as a sailor on the open seas. In 1958 he briefly attended the academy of art in Arnhem and The Hague. Cremer lived for some time on Ibiza and left for New York in 1964. Afterwards he resided alternately in America and Europe. As a writer Cremer quickly became famous with "Ik Jan Cremer" (1964). It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence and adventure. Because of this, the literary merit of his authorship was not deemed very high by everyone. The novel was kept out of libraries for a long time. "Ik Jan Cremer" appeared in many languages. In addition to novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and plays. The art of Jan Cremer consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and sculptures often depict Dutch, and also Italian, landscapes in vivid colors.
