Original work by Jan Cremer. In honor of his exhibition: Jan Cremer as Painter (The Hague period 1958-1962) at Galerie Nouvelles Imges in The Hague.
Cremer produced a fine piece for several exhibition brochures.
Jan Cremer, writer and artist, was born in 1940 in Enschede. His father died in 1942, leaving Jan's upbringing entirely to his mother.
Jan's mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest.
After the war, Jan Cremer was placed by child protective services in foster homes and colony houses.
In the fifties he held a variety of jobs, served with the marines, and for a time worked as a sailor on the high seas.
In 1958 he attended art school for a few months at the academy in Arnhem and The Hague.
Cremer lived for a while on Ibiza and left for New York in 1964.
Thereafter he alternated living in America and Europe.
As a writer, Cremer instantly became famous with I, Jan Cremer (1964).
It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence and adventure.
As a result, the literary merit of his authorship was not regarded as very high by everyone.
The novel was kept out of libraries for a long time.

In addition to novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and plays.
Jan Cremer's art consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and often depicts Dutch, and also Italian, landscapes in bright colors."
