Description from the seller
In Corneille's works, birds often appear as powerful symbols of freedom, movement, and imagination. A crow plays a special role: with its dark color and streamlined form, it often represents mystery, strength, or the unknown. Corneille combines the crow with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal simultaneously intimidating and poetic. This fits with his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive imagery are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator in postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women, and flowers. This colorful silkscreen is a fine example of his later style.
