The heliogravure was printed and issued in 1923 by his wife. A. Zernike-Mankes and Roland Holst.

The engraving is in excellent condition and is supplied with a matching cream-colored passe-partout in the depicted frame.

A great Dutch master of the arts who unfortunately died at only 31 years of age. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises about 150 paintings, mostly on small formats, around 100 drawings and more than 40 sheets of graphic art, mainly etchings and woodcuts.

Jan Mankes is remembered in art history as “Holland’s most serene painter.” He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making surrounding his artistry.
