Description from the seller
Alfredo Alcain (Madrid-1936-)
Palomas y flores
Instance 61 of a edition of 200
DIMENSIONS: Impression: 36 x 26 cm.
Engraving: 53 x 39 cm.
Edition instance signed, dated and justified by the author in pencil at the bottom of the print’s impression. The author himself carried out the plate engraving.
The engraving is original and of a limited edition of 200 copies. It is part of a collection of twelve copies, this being number 2, as seen on the envelope that protects it.
Noble materials with traditional techniques have been used and Alcain has directly etched the plate.
It is made on Guarro 250-gram thread paper.
The plate was destroyed after the engraving of the 200 copies.
It bears a blind stamp in the lower right corner "CP" of Colecciones Privadas de Arte Contemporáneo, which guarantees authenticity, quality and the limited number of copies, as well as the artisanal process followed for creation and printing.
Irregular edges.
Good preservation, with slight yellowing of the paper due to the age of the engraving.
His work can be framed between a critical realism and an aesthetic close to Pop Art, which runs throughout his artistic career. It loses the American component of this movement due to a castizo and popular character. The Madrid of neighborhood shops and shop windows, of houses and façades. In everyday life he finds his inspiration.
One of his characteristics is composition made up of several elements that form a whole. His compositions usually feature flat colors and shapes that seem to float, creating “visual puzzles” of great vitality and harmony.
His approach often includes a subtle irony about the domestic and social reality of late Francoist Spain and the transition.
He uses a wide variety of supports and techniques ranging from poster, collage and even embroidery.
Edition signed, dated and justified by the author in pencil.
It was purchased at public auction in Madrid, coming from the funds of an Art Gallery.
It will be sent perfectly packaged.
