Ans Markus (born 1947 in Halfweg) is a Dutch artist, best known for her paintings of human figures often wrapped in cloths or bandages.
Markus studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Her work revolves around themes of vulnerability, protection, and identity. The wrapped bodies in her paintings evoke both a sense of safety and suffocation.
She broke through in the 1980s, and her work quickly gained popularity with a broad audience. In addition to painting, she also creates drawings and graphic works.
