Jacques Doucet was born on 9 April 1924 in Boulogne-Billancourt. He was active as a painter. During the war Doucet was interned as a political prisoner, an experience that would influence his work as a painter. At the end of World War II he studied at the academy in Montparnasse. In 1947 he met Corneille (1922-2010), who involved him with the Dutch Experimental Group in Holland (1948). He designed the cover for the second issue of Reflex.
In 1948 he joined Cobra with Jean-Michel Atlan (1913-1960), where he would be active in maintaining contacts. His work was present at the exhibition in Amsterdam in 1949 as well as in Liège in 1951. Doucet worked with all kinds of materials. After his connections with Cobra he began to paint increasingly abstractly. His work has regularly been shown at exhibitions in France, Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
