Title
Kumi Sugai (1919–1996) – Geometric Abstract – Screenprint – Signed – Ed. 154/200 (Unframed)
Description
Kumi Sugai (1919–1996) was a leading Japanese abstract artist who relocated to Paris in 1952, where he became an influential figure in the post-war European art scene. His works are held in major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York) and the Centre Pompidou (Paris).
This artwork is a strong example from Sugai’s mature period, executed in a refined screenprint technique. It features his distinctive geometric vocabulary, with bold red circular forms set against a structured composition of black and green linear elements.
The composition demonstrates Sugai’s exploration of visual signs and symbols, creating a dynamic balance between organic forms and mechanical precision—hallmarks of his contribution to 20th-century abstraction.
Please note: This artwork is offered unframed. The frame shown in the photos is for display purposes only and is not included.
Sugai’s prints continue to be highly sought after in both European and Japanese markets, supported by his established reputation and consistent demand among collectors.
