Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist both domestically and internationally. His artworks are included in several renowned art collections, and he was the first Dutch artist elected as “Official Olympic Artist” for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels' artworks lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISME: he imagines the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with another, imaginative view of everyday things and is often surprised.
Briels depicts experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North- and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, the musical tones poured with a lightly erotic sauce, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never bound by time and express universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of daily life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the tool, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than we are expected to see. Because we have learned stereotypes, not imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Framed dimensions: 62 x 56 cm
Unframed dimensions: 33 x 30 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the industry association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
