Aad de Haas, Maastricht, hand-signed limited edition linocut from 1981, in good condition, 51 × 41 cm including frame, origin Netherlands, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
Aad de Haas (1920–1972) was a Dutch expressionist artist who mainly worked in Limburg. His oeuvre is characterized by powerful lines, strong black-and-white contrasts, and a strong social engagement. He depicted the lives of miners, farmers and religious themes in an incisive, sometimes confrontational manner. His war experiences and critical view of the church and society gave his work extra depth and emotional charge.
In his linocuts 'Maastricht', De Haas's style comes through clearly. With sharp cuts and strong contours, he captures the character of the city in a simplified, expressive formal language. The strong play of light and dark lends the work dynamism and drama, while the architecture and atmosphere of Maastricht remain recognizable.
On the back of the frame there is an envelope with documentation and articles about the artist.
Dimensions: 34 x 29 cm
Dimensions with frame: 51 x 41 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use these services, we would of course be pleased to hear from you.
