Description from the seller
Otto Lais was a German artist whose body of work developed during a period marked by major social and artistic changes. Born in 1904, he belonged to a generation of artists who directly experienced the impact of both the Weimar era and the turbulent decades that followed. His work shows a strong affinity with figurative artistic traditions, while at the same time he remained open to stylistic innovations that broke through in the first half of the 20th century.
In this finely etched presentation, Otto Lais demonstrates his skill in combining humor, critical observation, and a strong sense of theatrical composition. The work consists of a layered scene in which at the top two nude figures are depicted, lying in a relaxed, almost floating pose. Their bodies form a horizontal line that visually balances the image and contrasts with the more caricatured figures below.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 33 x 28 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 16 x 16 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing department, celebrating its 85th anniversary this year. We also use restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, please let us know.
