Description from the seller
This photo was taken by the Franco-Italian photographer Walter Carone (1920-1982) and features the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve. Deneuve made her film debut at the age of thirteen in Les Collégiennes (1956), adopting her mother's maiden name. She gained international fame in 1964 for her role in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. From that moment she grew into one of the leading actresses of French cinema and one of the biggest stars in the international film world in the 1960s.
Walter Carone was known for his refined portraits of celebrities and his reports from the early editions of the Cannes Film Festival. Between 1945 and the mid-1960s he produced more than 10,000 high-quality photographs for various French publishers. These prints were produced by Starck Gallery and form a stylish tribute to both the glamour of cinema and the classic portrait photography of the twentieth century.
