Short biographical excerpt:

Joan Miró was born in 1893 in Barcelona, a city of culture. Son of a craftsman, highly gifted and interested in art, he trained at a free academy where he discovered the Fauves and the Post-Impressionists, i.e., a painting full of color! Miró arrived in Paris after the Great War, in 1920.

André Breton described Miró as “the most surrealist of us.” Miró expresses his provocative contempt for painting and his desire to kill it and to assassinate it in favor of new means of expression. He participated in the Surrealism exhibition in 1947 at Galerie Maeght, which has since exhibited him every year; it became his exclusive gallery, his publisher, his printer. Joan Miró won the 1954 Print Prize at the Venice Biennale.
