Description from the seller
On the occasion of the sixtieth birthday of Erwin Olaf, this extensive publication appeared, in which the photographer for the first time presents a comprehensive overview of his body of work. The monumental coffee-table book contains no fewer than 240 photographs and shows both his early black-and-white images as well as his famous autonomous works and most recent creations.
The book offers an impressive insight into Olaf’s artistic development over four decades: from his early years as a provocative and rebellious photographer in Amsterdam’s nightlife to his later role as an internationally renowned portrait photographer and master of carefully composed, still images.
In addition to the rich imagery, Olaf also provides personal notes on his working process and themes. With his great technical mastery of the photographic medium, he combines aesthetic perfection with sharp and often piercing commentary on identity, beauty, desire and societal conventions.
Erwin Olaf (1959–2023) was an internationally renowned Dutch photographer, known for his meticulously staged photography in which every detail was carefully directed. Themes such as beauty, sexuality, identity and transience played a significant role in his work. He gained worldwide recognition and, among other things, produced portraits of the Dutch royal family.
Dimensions: 31 x 24 cm
Signed and dated
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
