Geneviève Claisse, Composition, 1966 is a hand-signed silkscreen in black and white from a 1960s abstract period, edition 22/75, measuring 70 by 50 cm, created in France as a limited edition artwork of geometric abstraction.
Description from the seller
Geneviève Claisse was a prominent figure in post-war French geometric abstraction, known for her precise, vibrant compositions built on pure forms, rhythm, and a refined sense of color. Closely associated with the legacy of concrete art, her work reflects a lifelong exploration of balance, structure, and visual harmony.
She had a close artistic and personal connection to Auguste Herbin, who was in fact her great-uncle and one of the most important influences on her career.
From a young age, Claisse was deeply inspired by Herbin’s pioneering work in geometric abstraction and his development of a strict visual language based on form and color harmony. After Herbin’s death, she became one of the key artists to continue and develop his legacy within the tradition of concrete art.
The serigraph offered here is a strong representation of her artistic language. Signed and dated 1966, it comes from an important period in her career, when her style was becoming increasingly confident and clearly defined. The composition showcases her characteristic geometric clarity and elegance, making it a compelling piece for collectors of modern and abstract art.
