Description from the seller
This photo is part of The Sochi Project, the extensive documentary project by Rob Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen. Hornstra, born in Borne in 1975, is among the leading Dutch documentary photographers of his generation. Since his graduation in 2004 he has been working on long-running documentary projects in the Netherlands, Iceland, and the former Soviet Union. In addition to his independent work, he takes on photography assignments for newspapers and magazines and has published several photo books. In 2006 he founded FOTODOK, an international exhibition space for documentary photography in Utrecht. A year later he won the GD4PhotoART International Competition.
In 2009 Hornstra and Van Bruggen started The Sochi Project, a five-year journalistic and photographic project that documented the changes surrounding the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The project not only documented the preparations for the Olympic city but also the social, political, and cultural tensions in the surrounding Caucasus region. It was notable that this was one of the first large-scale Dutch journalistic projects to be largely financed by private investors. This photo is part of that internationally acclaimed project.
