Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1913. Apprenticed as a house painter at age 13 while attending night art school. Fled to Montparnasse, France in 1939 following the defeat of the Popular Front, where he created works reflecting affinity with Bonnard. Met his fellow countryman Picasso in 1944, receiving a decisive influence. Gained international acclaim from the 1950s, holding exhibitions globally. Received awards at the Venice Biennale in 1956 and the São Paulo Biennale the following year. Selected as the representative for Spain at the Venice Biennale in 1984. Active across various artistic fields including painting, objects, sculpture, and printmaking. Passed away in 2005.
