Chinese Yixing ‘Hohin’ Teapot
China, Yixing, circa 1970s–1980s

A beautifully minimalist Chinese Yixing teapot crafted from Yixing clay, executed in the elegant Hohin-style form. This type of teapot was specially made for the Japanese market, as Hohin means "Treasure Jar" in Japanese. Unlike conventional teapots, this refined design omits a traditional handle and instead features subtle angular side lugs, allowing for a secure and balanced grip while pouring.

The restrained silhouette and smooth rounded body reflect the understated aesthetics highly appreciated in Gong Fu tea culture, where functionality and purity of form are central. The porous Yixing clay gradually absorbs the aroma of tea through use, enhancing the brewing experience over time.

The base is impressed with the mark:

中国宜兴
(Zhongguo Yixing — “China Yixing”)

in the characteristic seal style associated with Yixing production of the 1970s and 1980s, a period during which classic traditional forms were widely produced for both domestic use and export markets.
