The Omega Seamaster is an absolute cornerstone of vintage watch collecting, and early executions possessing textured dials hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts. Introduced shortly after the Seamaster line's debut, the Seamaster Calendar was a significant milestone, integrating a date complication into the robust, water-resistant platform. This particular example is a stunning representation of mid-century Omega design, featuring a highly desirable honeycomb or "waffle" dial, distinctive beefy lugs, and a fascinating bumper automatic movement. It is a timepiece that perfectly captures the transitional era of robust tool watches evolving into elegant everyday companions, offering immense character and historical charm.

Dial and Hands
The dial is the undeniable focal point of this timepiece, featuring a deeply embossed honeycomb or waffle texture that plays beautifully with the light. It is adorned with applied, faceted dart indices, culminating in a distinctive shield-shaped marker at the 12 o'clock position, all complemented by the applied Omega logo. The typography is crisp, with the classic "Seamaster" script positioned above "CALENDAR" and the framed date aperture symmetrically located at 6 o'clock. The dial surface remains remarkably clean for its age, exhibiting a warm, even, eggshell patina. The original dauphine hands show significant oxidation and dark aging, which extends to the luminous material present on both the hands and the small plots at the base of the indices. This degradation is entirely consistent with the watch's age and adds a layer of authentic vintage character without compromising the dial's overall legibility or charm.

Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case showcases the iconic "beefy lug" profile that defines early Seamasters, providing a substantial presence on the wrist despite its classic dimensions. The transition between the smooth, polished bezel and the sturdy lugs remains well-defined, though the case exhibits honest, age-consistent signs of wear, including surface scratches and minor handling marks throughout the flanks and lugs. The snap-on caseback is plain, a standard feature for this era, and bears internal markings confirming the reference 2627-5 SC.

Movement
Powering this Seamaster is the highly regarded Omega Caliber 353, a 17-jewel bumper automatic movement. The close-up images reveal the movement's beautiful copper-toned finish, characteristic of Omega's mid-century production, alongside clearly engraved caliber, jewel count, and serial number markings. The bumper mechanism, which relies on a rotor that bounces between two hidden springs rather than rotating fully, is a delightful mechanical quirk of the era. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results show a deviation of +8 to +11 seconds per day with strong amplitude. Recently serviced, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency

Strap
The watch is presented on a period correct stainless steel beads of rice bracelet, which drapes exceptionally well on the wrist and perfectly complements the mid-century aesthetic. The folding clasp is proudly stamped with the Omega logo. The bracelet shows normal stretch and wear consistent with its age, accommodating a wrist size of up to 19cm.

Condition
This Omega Seamaster Calendar is in good vintage condition. It presents an authentic, unpolished aesthetic with a case that wears its history honestly. The deeply textured waffle dial is beautifully preserved, while the heavily oxidized hands and aged luminous plots provide a stark, characterful contrast. The mechanical health is excellent, making this a highly wearable and deeply charming piece of Omega's heritage.

Remarks
Early Seamaster Calendars with waffle dials and 6 o'clock date windows are increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate the intersection of robust engineering and intricate mid-century design. The combination of the textured dial, beefy lugs, and bumper movement makes this reference 2627 a quintessential example of Omega's golden era.

History
Launched in 1948 to coincide with Omega's 100th anniversary, the Seamaster was initially designed as a robust, water-resistant watch for active individuals, drawing upon the brand's experience producing timepieces for the British military during World War II. The addition of the date complication in the early 1950s, marked by the "Calendar" designation, represented a step forward in everyday utility. These early models laid the foundation for what would become one of the most famous and enduring model lines in horological history.
