INFORMATION: Around 1880, Degas undertook a series of monotypes inspired by Parisian brothels. These works remain in his personal collection and were reacquired in the early 1920s by Ambroise Vollard (the famous dealer of Picasso, Cézanne, Renoir, and Georges Rouault). He entrusted them to Maurice Potin who put them on copper and produced the print. Vollard ultimately published them around 1935 in two portfolios printed in about 350 copies.
The engraving offered comes from the archives of the engraver Maurice Potin.
