Description from the seller
Jan Sierhuis (1928-2023). After the war, Jan Sierhuis developed into an expressionist painter, influenced by, among others, Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. Together with Appel, Corneille and Lucebert he found himself at the heart of post-war developments in art.
In 1945 Sierhuis was admitted to the evening program of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, which he left after a conflict. In 1947 he was involved with the group of the Experimenters and in 1948 with the CoBrA group, though he was too young to become an official member. Later, in 1962, he was co-founder of the Amsterdam artists' group Groep Scorpio. This is a later work, but still equally striking.
