Description
This is an original silkscreen print by Sadamasa Motonaga (1922–2011), one of the most prominent members of the historic Japanese avant-garde group, the Gutai Art Association. Motonaga is internationally celebrated for his distinctive artistic style, which combines playful, organic abstraction with vivid colour fields and humorous, poetically ambiguous forms.
The artwork features a striking composition with a rich red form set against a subtle blue-to-white gradient background, complemented by Motonaga’s signature whimsical, character-like elements.
The lower margin bears the artist’s handwritten pencil signature, “S. Motonaga”, on the right and the edition number “367/500” on the left. An embossed publisher/printer’s blindstamp is also visible in the lower right margin of the sheet.
