Description from the seller
Theo Kuijpers (1939) is a Dutch artist who trained at the Academy for Industrial Design in Eindhoven. During his military service in Suriname (1962-1963) he absorbed impressions that had a lasting influence on his work. Travel has since become an important source of inspiration; countries such as Morocco, Australia, Italy, France and Iceland provide him with images, colors and emotions that he later translates in his Eindhoven studio into paintings. His work does not originate on site, but from memories and impressions that he converts into powerful compositions on canvas.
Initially Kuijpers worked as a material artist, inspired by artists such as Tapiès. With materials such as pig bladder, lead and wood he processed memories of his youth on a farm in Mierlo. Although he later developed into a more abstract painter, his constructivist approach remained recognizable. In addition to paint he regularly uses natural and found materials such as tent canvas, rope, twigs, branches and clothing, giving his paintings a tangible, layered structure. In his more than fifty-year career, the traces left by people in architecture and landscape play a central role. His work is both thoughtful and intuitive and constitutes a personal translation of what lingered in mind and heart from his travels and experiences.
Dimensions: 122 x 111 cm
